May 15th
California Supreme Court to Rule on Marriage Case!

The UU Legislative Ministry working with CA Faith for Equality, led the effort to file an important Interfaith Amicus Brief in the Marriage Case before the CA Supreme Court. This Brief, signed by over 400 clergy and faith organizations from a wide variety of religious communities, presents an historical overview of the relationship between religious practice, civil law, and marriage. It offers a profound argument that both human dignity and religious freedom are supported when loving same sex couples are allowed to marry.

The California Supreme Court decision will be posted at this site, Thursday, May 15th, at 10:00 a.m.

Compelling Oral Arguments were heard on March 4th. The hearing has been archived, both video and audio- only, and you can watch it (or just listen) on the Supreme Court website.

Virtual Meeting House Open - Join the Discussion

This June 3rd during the California Primary Elections, there will also be two propositions on the ballot - Proposition 98 and Proposition 99. The debate about these two propositions has extremely important ramifications on state and city planning, rent control, and other impactful issues.

Read informative links, weigh in on the discussion, and learn from other UUs across California at the Virtual UU Meeting House.

UULM Voter Guide to the June 3rd Ballot Propositions

Click here for a one page guide comparing the positions of major faith, business, labor, civil rights and good government organizations on the June 3rd propositions.

Note: most of the organizations we normally track, who often disagree on issues,  are all opposed to 98. Those in favor of 98 include the Howard Jarvis Tax Payers Association, the California Realtors Association, and the CA Republican Party.

The UULM Action Network recommends a No Vote on Prop 98 and a Yes vote on Prop 99.

Water: A Young Adult Road Trip for Justice

How will climate change affect our water supply?  What can we do to live in harmony with the interdependent web of life and assure access to safe affordable water for basic human needs? What is water justice? These and many more questions will be addressed by young adults (ages 18-25) August 2-10 on a Road Trip for Justice through northern and central California. This tour, sponsored by UULM and PSWD, is designed to educate young UUs about water justice and climate change in California.
